CLUA & FPC
Halting & Reversing Tropical Deforestation
Grassroots Facilitation supported the design and facilitation of a three-day strategic workshop for the Climate and Land Use Alliance (CLUA) and Forest, People, Climate (FPC), bringing together over 50 global experts from diverse regions and disciplines. The workshop aimed to develop and refine FPC's 10 interconnected strategies to halt and reverse tropical deforestation while promoting just and sustainable development. By fostering collaboration among participants, the workshop created a shared understanding of these strategies and their monitoring and evaluation frameworks, ensuring alignment and effective implementation in tropical forest countries.

Grassroots Facilitation played a key role in the 2023 European SET Plan Conference by designing and facilitating three interactive workshops. These workshops, held under the theme "Energy Research & Innovation for a Competitive Europe," were part of the conference's effort to boost the transition to a climate-neutral energy system. Organized under the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the workshops gathered participants to discuss and collaborate on key themes: research and innovation for societal needs, circularity, and critical materials. Grassroots Facilitation's expertise helped create a dynamic environment for sharing best practices and fostering collaborations across the energy industry community.

Grassroots Facilitation partnered with CoLab International and Wellcome Trust to design and facilitate a series of global virtual events, supporting the development of a reformed research and development (R&D) ecosystem for infectious diseases. Through these online events, Grassroots Facilitation supported the implementation of a comprehensive “listening exercise” to gather input from diverse stakeholders across the R&D ecosystem, including voices from affected communities. This process helped Wellcome Trust refine its policy vision for an equitable and innovative infectious disease R&D ecosystem, fostering sustained dialogue and building new relationships within the global health community.

Grassroots Facilitation partnered with CoLab International and the International Pandemic Preparedness Secretariat (IPPS) to design and facilitate four online multi-stakeholder sessions supporting the 100 Days Mission (100DM). These sessions brought together a diverse group of participants, including IPPS members, government officials, researchers, funders, NGOs, and healthcare professionals, to discuss regional capacities, motivations, barriers and opportunities in achieving the 100DM goals. By fostering collaboration and linking local partners across East Africa, West Africa, South/South-East Asia, and Latin America, Grassroots Facilitation helped promote a whole-ecosystem approach to pandemic preparedness and identified opportunities for further partnerships to enhance readiness.

Grassroots Facilitation, in collaboration with SenseTribe Consulting, provided crucial support for the European Philanthropy Coalition for Climate by facilitating a hybrid event in Brussels on December 5-6, 2022. This event, organized by Philea and WINGS, brought together key coordinators of the #PhilanthropyForClimate commitments to advance the strategic goals of this global movement. Grassroots Facilitation supported with the design and led the sessions to help participants transition from broad visionary discussions to concrete actions. The facilitation focused on fostering meaningful connections among attendees, reviewing and refining shared goals, and developing a robust transparency and accountability framework. This gathering aimed to strengthen the coalition’s efforts by aligning on practical steps and enhancing collaborative efforts to drive climate action across regional and national networks.

Grassroots Facilitation, in collaboration with SenseTribe Consulting, played a key role in the design and facilitation of participatory sessions for the Rural Pact Conference held in Brussels in June 2022. Organized by the European Commission’s DG AGRI, the conference aimed to unite EU, national, and regional politicians with local authorities and various stakeholders to advance the Rural Pact—a framework designed to foster cooperation across multiple levels for the development of rural areas. Grassroots Facilitatio focused on creating interactive and engaging sessions that reflected the Rural Pact's bottom-up approach. Their efforts were crucial in promoting active participation, encouraging dialogue, and ensuring that diverse voices contributed to shaping the long-term vision for rural areas within the EU.

IPPF - SOCIAL MOVEMENT CENTER
Developing a shared vision for IPPF’s Social Movement Center
Grassroots Facilitation, in collaboration with OpenSpace Collective, supported the Social Movement Center (SMC), an initiative of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), in developing and facilitating a participatory process. This process aimed to engage a diverse range of stakeholders in setting the strategic direction for the Center's development. The engagement process involved individual interviews, focus groups, interactive workshops, and participatory sessions. By fostering collaboration and deepening relationships, this initiative helped build a Community of Practice that enhances local efforts and global partnerships, culminating in a comprehensive strategy for the Center's growth and impact.

Grassroots Facilitation provided essential support for the facilitation of participatory workshops at both the 7th and 8th European Civil Protection Forums, organized by the European Commission's DG ECHO. For the 7th Forum held in June 2022 in Brussels, Grassroots Facilitation, in collaboration with SenseTribe Consulting, was responsible for designing and facilitating 14 breakout sessions. These sessions were integral to the conference, which focused on actors involved in shaping and implementing the European Civil Protection Policy.
At the 8th European Civil Protection Forum, held on June 4-5, 2024, Grassroots Facilitation played a key role in guiding discussions and workshops for over 1,500 participants from 70+ countries. This forum aimed to enhance disaster resilience in the EU by addressing evolving risks. Grassroots Facilitation’s expertise in facilitation and participatory hosting was crucial in bringing together diverse stakeholders—including civil protection authorities, first responders, and academia—share insights and plan for improved future responses and risk management.

The events, organized by the European Commission's Secretariat-General, brought together country representatives and communication professionals from various EU member states. The primary objectives were to foster connections among participants, exchange best practices, and identify emerging needs within the ECI framework. Grassroots Facilitation expertly designed and facilitated these workshops, ensuring a productive and collaborative environment aimed at enhancing citizens' engagement in EU policy-making.

Grassroots Facilitation, in collaboration with Impact Hub Amsterdam, supported SNV in advancing its “Communities for Impact” initiative by facilitating strategic initiatives and capacity-building sessions. This collaboration aimed to strengthen SNV's internal capacity for sustainable innovation within its global network. Specifically, Grassroots Facilitation focused on enhancing communities of practice by enabling peer-sharing around shared climate and youth employment issues, supporting the design of a knowledge management prototype to drive internal innovation, and fostering a cultural shift towards more agile and collaborative ways of working. These efforts contributed to SNV’s mission of making a lasting difference in the lives of people living in poverty.
